Avocado, based in Hoboken, NJ, manufacturers and sells environmentally friendly mattresses. They use a unique blend of eco materials that come together to provide one of the most unique and interesting mattresses on the market.
Organic certified latex, organic certified wool, and organic certified cotton. That's the first thing you'll notice about the Avocado Green mattress. Everything is so, well, green. "No polyester, polyurethane foams, or toxic fire retardents are used" claims the website. We believe you, Avocado, but how does the mattress feel? Hows the durability? (editors note: read our review below to find out). Another differentiating factor is the top. Avocado allows you to add an optional pillow top to bring down the firmness from a brisk 7 to a cushy 6. To be honest though, I think a lot of people will be happy with the non-pillow top version, as there simply aren't a lot of firm mattresses in a box available on the market.
The Avocado Green Mattress is a 7 on the scale above, or medium firm. Avocado also reports that it works fine with all boxsprings, slatted frames, and adjustable frames. Adding an optional pillow top brings it down to a 6 on the scale above.
Thanks to it's pocket coils (arranged into 5 unique zones), motion transfer is kept to a minimum, and support is uniform throughout, especially in the places you need it (like the middle).
The Avocado Green Mattress uses wool, which has a natural physio-chemical structure that wicks away moisture and keeps you feeling cool. Unlike many traditional foam and memory foam mattresses, the Avocado Green is breathable and sleeps cool.
Avocado Green is a hybrid mattress, combining latex, wool, cotton, and individually tuned, wrapped pocket coils. For edge support, there's a reinforced steel perimeter.
Oh, and there's a handle for easy carry. Why don't other companies do this?
Size | Dimensions |
---|---|
Twin | 38" x 75" |
Twin XL | 38" x 80" |
Full | 54" x 75" |
Queen | 60" x 80" |
King | 76" x 80" |
Cali King | 72" x 84" |
The website only lists the range of weights, not the individual mattress. We've dispatched a note to the company and will update when we receive more details. For now though, the website does say that the Twin weighs 59 lbs, and the Cal King weighs 122 lbs. These are on the lighter side for comparable mattresses.
