The GhostBed Luxe was the second mattress launched by the GhostBed team. Their first, the eponymous GhostBed was tremendously well received and garnered a quick cult following. So, the question on everyones' mind was, "Can they do it again?"
A lot of people sleep hot. Common anecdotes range from tossing and turning all night, slopping around in a pile of sweat, to simply being slightly uncomfortable and needing to run a fan while they sleep. Me? I'm more of an even keeled sleeper, but I can get behind some of the benefit and pure enjoyment of having a cool pillow -- so I'm also kind of into cool beds. Cooler than the other side of the pillow, they say. But what does that look like in a mattress... does it even make a real difference?
Turns out, it does. Even if you're like me, and you haven't really ever thought that you sleep hot, take a couple of nights on a specialty cooling mattress and you'll never go back. They just feel more airy. Sometimes you can forget you're even laying on a mattress at all., which is kind of what we're all secretly yearning for. To be unencumbered by the mattresses beneath us, floating off into the clouds and getting the best nights sleep of our life, every night. The GhostBed Luxe just might be that mattress for you.
The Luxe is a 13" tall, 7 layer memory foam mattress. It's priced above the entry level memory foam mattresses, and why shouldn't it be? It's got significantly more technology and manufacturing between the sheets. That's not to say it's a luxury mattress, because it's not. But it's pretty darn close.
On the scale, the GhostBed Luxe is pretty much smack dab in the middle. It's a 5-6 medium-firm, medium-soft mattress.
The GhostBed Luxe was created to be a cool mattress -- and in our opinion, they've succeeded. There are two main points that we evaluate when we look at the cooling / sleep temperature characteristics of a mattress:
When you lay on a mattress you first feel the cover. Many covers are simply neutral, neither hot nor cold. Thanks to the Ghost Ice Fabric layer, the GhostBed Luxe does have a cool sensation when you put your hand on it.
Once your body settles in the mattress and the 'hug' is applied, the layer materials are responsible for absorption and dissipation of the heat.
The GhostBed Luxe has phase change technology in its' Ghost Ice Layer and it's remarkably effective at continuously shuffling off heat as you sleep.
The GhostBed Luxe is one of the few beds that we've tested that is 100% Made in the USA.
In terms of layers, the GhostBed Luxe is constructed from 7 layers:
Size | Dimensions |
---|---|
Twin | 38" x 75" |
Twin XL | 38" x 80" |
Full | 54" x 75" |
Queen | 60" x 80" |
King | 76" x 80" |
Cali King | 72" x 84" |
The GhostBed Luxe is 13" tall and works fine with all of the boxsprings, slatted frames, and adjustable frames that we tested.
In terms of how much each of the beds weigh:
GhostBed, the manufacturer of the GhostBed Luxe, has these customer support / contact options:
The GhostBed Luxe ships free, and fast (within 24 hours). Our sample was shipped on a Friday and we received it via FedEx delivery on Monday. The company states that the delivery process takes "2-5 business days".
As with all GhostBed beds, there's a generous trial and warranty:
One thing to note about returns is that you cannot initiate a return until 30 days have passed since the delivery of your mattress. So, technically the return period is anytime after 30 days, but before 101 days.
